This seminar first takes a look at the Roman Empire which influenced each of the other cities. Some were colonies of Rome, others were not. How did the culture of Rome, its religion, its economy and its laws and judicial system affect other regions and cities of the Mediterranean world? How did Rome become an empire? Who are the historians of antiquity that recorded these aspects of culture? How much of the Greek culture influenced the Roman culture? What about Roman construction?
