Jesus Observing the Feasts begins with a listing of the feasts He observed and the biblical foundation for the feasts. Then we take a look at the Jewish religious calendar. That calendar is a lunar/solar calendar based on the phases of the moon and a 29 and 1/2 day month with twelve months alternating 30 days, then 29 days, then 30 days, then 29 days etc. through the year. This makes for a 354 day year. We show how that is reconciled with the solar calendar we use having 365.25 days.
We then discuss the feasts in the following order: Rosh Hashanah (or Feast of Trumpets), Yom Kippur (Atonement, actually a fast), Sukkot (Feast of Tabernacles), Pesach (Passover, actually one day), Unleavened Bread (a separate feast immediately following Passover), First Fruits (recognition of the barley harvest), Shavuot (Feast of Weeks known in Christian circles as Pentecost), and finishing with Chanukah (Festival of Lights, known in John as the Feast of Dedication).
If time allows there are other Feasts and Observances which include: Simchat Torah (Torah cycle), Purim (Lots, the celebration of GOD’S deliverance in the time of Esther), Tu B’ Shevat (New Year of the Tree), and Tisha B’ Av (a fast acknowledging the Temple Destruction).
