Jesus Observing the Feasts

Jesus Observing the Feasts

In Jesus observing the Feasts we look at seven feast days and one fast day. We also take a look at the Jewish solar-lunar calendar to find out where these holy days occur during the year. The are three means of measuring years for different purposes. There is the religious calendar, the civil calendar and the calendar for trees. The religious calendar marks the holy convocations and begins with the month of Nissan in which Passover, Unleavened Bread and First Fruits are observed. These occur around the barely harvest. Nissan is the first month of the religious calendar. The Feast of Weeks (Shavuot, known to Christians as Pentecost) occurs at the wheat harvest. The civil calendar begins in the seventh month, the month of Tishri, but is the first month of the civil calendar. Three holy days occur this month: Rosh Hashanah, Yom Kippur (Day of Atonement) and Sukkot (Tabernacles). These are observed following the fall harvest season. Hanukah, or the Feast of Dedication, appears in the New Testament (John 10:22) because it is based on GOD’S victory over the Greeks through the Maccabees in the intertestamental period and is observed in the winter month of Kislev (November/December). In this seminar we look at how Jesus observed each of these and their significance for the Messianic Kingdom.
