About Us

You’ve read your Bible, maybe even studied it more intently than most. However, the Bible sometimes assumes the reader understands the culture in which it was written. After all, the writers were writing to their own generation. The characters mentioned sometimes seem to do or say things strange to our ears. Is it fair to judge a person based on our standards of culture and not take into consideration the culture in which that person lived?

Insights in Biblical Narratives and Culture attempts to go back in time to the context of Scripture, with a look at archaeology as well, to gain a better understanding of what the Bible was saying in its time and how we can apply its message to our time.

Wouldn’t it be better not to impose the twenty-first century onto the Bible, but let the Bible speak to the twenty-first century?

Our Founder

Ordained to the Gospel Ministry in 1981, Vern Jordin graduated with honors from Hardin-Simmons University receiving  the  Religion Division Award  for Excellence  in  Scholarship, 1982, and from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary, 1986.

With forty years of ministry, Vern has spent his time since 2014 in a deeper study of the history and culture of the Bible. The topics listed here are the results of that study with more to come.

Our Mission

Insights in Biblical Narratives and Culture is a ministry of Vern Jordin dedicated to enhancing people’s understanding of the history and culture of biblical peoples, periods and places.
